Hello SWSC Alpine -
This weekend is #Shred4Nate, our most high profile club race and a major annual event for Stratton and the Stratton Community Foundation.
The most important thing to know about this event is why it exists: #Shred4Nate raises funds and awareness around mental health in honor of SWSC athlete Nathan Carreira (2003-2018). Nathan was an accomplished alpine racer with SWSC who took his own life in March 2018. At the time of his passing, a group of Nathan’s Stratton friends decided a race event would be the best way to celebrate his life. Funds raised from the event go to the Nathan M. Carreira Endowment Fund for mental health and suicide prevention at the Stratton Community Foundation. We partner with the Foundation, Stratton events, and SMS on this event. Our role is to run registrations and handle timing and awards.
There will be no general training for any groups on Saturday – all coaches will be dedicated to supporting SWSC skiers racing in #Shred4Nate (or to racing themselves!). Every member of the club who plans to be at Stratton on Saturday is encouraged to participate in the race, and parents are also welcome to join the fun. Registration is via ASR using the link in the Race Calendar entry for #Shred4Nate.The plan for the day is to meet at the normal times/locations for warm up runs with regular groups. We will take care of bibs and inspection with all skiers.
The course set will be 18-20m radius, so most younger skiers will want to use GS skis while older skiers can choose between SL, GS or cheater skis.
SWSC athletes will run the race by age group (bibs numbers and starts will be grouped by age class but not in exact bib number order), and the lunch break will be rolling based on the completion of any given group’s racing window, see below.
Parents of younger skiers should plan to meet them at the bottom of the course on Franks for lunch pickup around the group times indicated below. Coaches will update with post-lunch meet up times but assume around 1 hour after pickup. (The times below are approximate; we will update them on Saturday morning once registration has closed.)
